In the first volume, Unmanned, Yorick Brown finds himself in what many consider to be every man's fantasy. However, as the comic series points out, the dream of countless men is really more of a nightmare. With half the population rotting in the streets and most of the labor force instantly gone, the world plummets into chaos. Starvation and disease spread as cities are plunged into darkness. Meanwhile, the few armies with a long tradition of female soldiers scramble to capture the last man on earth, following the trail of Yorick, 355 (a secret agent assigned to protect Yorick), and Dr. Mann (a Harvard biologist who seeks to discover what protected Yorick and Ampersand from the plague so that males may repopulate the earth).
Meanwhile, a group of radical feminists who call themselves "Amazons" see the plague as evidence of the intrinsic evil of men and believe it to be a sign that women are the rightful inheritors of the earth. Hero, a fervent Amazon, intends to eradicate all lingering traces of masculinity from the world, starting with the last man alive, her brother.
For today's reading, we pick up with Yorick, 355, and Dr. Mann as they are on the run in the second volume of the series, Cycles.
