Sometime during the week before class, there are a few things that I would like for you to take a look at.
The first is a youtube video that pans over 500 years of women in art. As you look at this video, take a minute to consider the dramatic changes that have taken place in the representation of the female form (especially the more abstract and surrealistic paintings by Picasso and Dali) . Consider the motivations behind such changes. Is the drive for surrealism a recent phenomenon, or has it always existed?
Now, take a look at the following cave paintings.
Finally, there is the required reading: a short passage from The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan.
